A  leading figure in a Limerick gang involved in a long-running feud has been arrested.

Gerard Dundon (21), a member of the McCarthy-Dundon gang, was arrested in Limerick yesterday afternoon.

He was committed to Limerick Prison after a bench warrant for his arrest was executed by gardaí.

Dundon was arrested when he appeared before a sitting of Limerick District Court.

He was sentenced to ten months in prison during the summer for 34 separate motoring offences. He lodged an appeal and was granted bail but failed to turn up for the appeal hearing.

At a court appearance in July his solicitor John Devane told the court Dundon was driving a bullet proof BMW, despite being banned from driving, because he believed there was a €1 million contract to kill him. Dundon said he lived in constant fear of being murdered “because of who his family are”.
