Gardaí are treating as suspicious a fire at a Limerick city pub early this morning.

The blaze at Brannigans in Mulgrave Street broke out some time between 2 am and 4 am. A Garda spokeswoman said a call had been received by Henry Street Station shortly before 4 am.

Gardaí and four units of the local fire brigade attended.

The interior of the pub was damaged in the blaze. The spokeswoman said the "matter is under investigation and looks suspicious at this stage".
