Limerick city district is Poles apart

Six in 10 people living in one small area of Limerick city were born in Poland, figures released by the CSO have shown.

Census data from some 18,500 small areas have been released by the Central Statistics Office. Each small area consists of a approximately 80 to 100 households.

The statistics show that there were six areas where at least half of the residents were born in Poland including an area aroundr Mallow Square in Limerick city,  an area in New Ross, Co Wexford, Fionnuisce on the outskirts of Galway city and two small areas in Tallaght.

The small areas with the most people of no religion are in Dublin and Cork, with 45 per cent of people in Ormond Quay/Sand Sand street area of Dublin city centre and 40 per cent of people between Lavitt's Quay and Patrick’s Street area of Cork city centre counting themselves as of no religion.

The census was carried out on April 10th, 2011, with census staff collecting forms from just under two million dwellings. The previous census was held in 2006.
