The Labour Court's intervention in the recent lifts dispute in Ballymun has been criticised by the chairman of the new Irish Lift Contractors' Association. Mr Kieran Duffy said at the inauguration of the association yesterday that the pay increases granted to striking lift engineers would cost employers an extra £5 million a year.
He said the increase would be "another wound to the so-called Celtic Tiger". "How can such an increase be included in a recommendation which is totally against Partnership 2000?" he asked. "The increase for the companies is between 17.5 per cent and 35 per cent."
