MONROVIA - Rival gunmen fought from street to street in Monrovia yesterday, as fighters loyal to the main faction leader, Mr Charles Taylor, made a fresh assault on their Krahn foes in the main army barracks.

The US barred entry yesterday to Liberian faction leaders, their families and associates and said that they would only be welcomed here once they show a willingness to restore peace. Washington is calling on all faction leaders to attend the May 7-8th Ecowas summit on Liberia in Accra, Ghana.
