The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has warned of a risk of salmonella in a batch of "ready-to-eat" lettuce which has been on sale in Irish shops.

As a result, a recall has been ordered by the manufacturers of Florette 100% Lambs Lettuce 80g bags with the following use-by dates: 19/04/07; 20/04/07 and 21/04/07.

"This product has been available through retail stores throughout the country, and the FSAI is concerned that the product could cause food poisoning if consumed," the authority said.

"Consumers are being asked to check the use-by dates, and not to consume product from the affected batches."

As the lettuce is "ready-to-eat" there is a risk that salmonella will not be destroyed before consumption.

"Consumers who have affected product are advised to dispose of it or return it to the store where it was purchased. Consumers who may have already consumed this product and are feeling unwell should seek medical advice," said the FSAI.
