Most sections of legislation to meet the accommodation needs of travellers came into effect yesterday. Under the Housing (Traveller Accommodation) Act, local authorities are expected to develop a comprehensive response to providing suitable accommodation for the 1,100 traveller families who were on the roadside or in unofficial encampments when statistics were compiled in November last year.
