A LEADING British barrister, Mr Michael Mansfield QC, is to defend two Co Armagh men who are facing a retrial on charges arising from the death of a Newry postal worker, Mr Frank Kerr.
Mr Kerr was shot dead during a raid on the post office in the Border town in November 1994, shortly after the IRA had declared a ceasefire.
Mr Mansfield represented the Caraher inquiry team after the shooting dead by British soldiers of Fergal Caraher (20) and the wounding of his brother Michael (23) at Cullyhanna in December 1990.
The two men accused of the Newry postman's murder, Mr Declan McComish and Mr Kevin Donegan, are denying the charges against them. The initial hearing was halted when their defence team resigned.
