BONN - The German Farm Minister, Mr Jochen Borchert, said yesterday he wanted to introduce a permanent order for the slaughter of cows imported from Britain and Switzerland after an emergency decree ran into legal problems.

New fears about bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), or mad cow disease, were sparked in Germany last month after officials said they thought they had found the first German born cow to die of the disease.
