A Co Donegal man has had the final year of his seven-year sentence for attempted rape and aggravated sexual assault suspended by the Central Criminal Court. The 41-year-old man was jailed in 1996. The crimes took place in the west of the county in 1994.

The court heard the defendant would not return to live in Donegal and had been offered accommodation and work in Dublin. Mr Justice Lavan said his decision to suspend the final year of the sentence was made with "great reluctance".
