LAGOS - The last batch of Shell oil workers held hostages by villagers in Nigeria were freed yesterday, a company spokesman said. "All our staff and contractors are now back safely in Warri," said the Shell spokesman in Lagos, referring to the midwestern oil city. The hostage saga began last Saturday when Ijaw tribesmen protested against the relocation of their local government headquarters to another town.
