Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta has insisted that he has entered into negotiations with Manchester United to sign David Beckham.
Beckham's future has been the source of constant speculation for over two months and a number of high-profile continental clubs have been linked with the England captain.
And with PSG's Brazilian World Cup winner Ronaldinho seemingly bound for Old Trafford, it appears more and more likely that Beckham will leave his boyhood hero's during the summer.
Laporta, who is one of six official candidates for the Barcelona presidency, said that it would not be easy to conclude a deal for the player but that he hoped for further developments in the next few days.
"We cannot deny that we started negotiations some time ago for the signing of David Beckham," Laporta told reporters in Barcelona.
"He (Beckham) is a world class player and there are a number of other clubs interested in signing him. I can't give more details for the moment."
