LEEDS - The age old rivalry between Yorkshire and Lancashire has fluttered on to a new wavelength thanks to the counties' bats. Scientists have discovered that Britain's commonest bat, the pipistrelle, is actually two different species.

They communicate at different frequencies, but most importantly as far as the War of the Roses is concerned one lives in Lancashire and the other in Yorkshire.
