Labour Party councillor Nicky Kelly is recovering in hospital after being injured in a road accident in Wicklow yesterday.

Cllr Kelly, from Arklow, Co Wicklow, was being treated in St Vincent's hospital last night after a car in which he was travelling collided with another vehicle on the Rathnew to Glenealy road in Wicklow at 4.30pm.

Two units of Wicklow Fire Brigade used cutting equipment to release Mr Kelly from his car.

A Labour Party spokesman said Mr Kelly's injuries are not life-threatening, but he is expected to be in hospital for several days.

The people in the other car were uninjured.

Yesterday, Mr Kelly was one of several politicians who spoke at the unveiling of the Anti-Corruption Ireland group in Dublin's Mansion House.
