A KLM Royal Dutch Airlines spokesman said the Dutch carrier is in talks with British Airways (BA) and other European airlines aimed at near-term survival in the aviation industry.

But Mr Bart Koster said: "We are absolutely not in alliance talks with BA." He said the talks with BA over the weekend were focused on ways to increase revenues and reduce costs under current European legislation.

"This could be by improving traffic returns on specific transatlantic flights through code sharing," Mr Koster said.

He said possible measures are aimed at near-term survival, as KLM "cannot foresee the landscape in the next six to 12 months". AFP
