Louth deputy Seamus Kirk escaped injury yesterday after his car was in a multi-vehicle crash in Dundalk involving five cars and a van. His car was hit side-on on the driver's side, but he was not injured.
However, he and four other adults were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda as a precaution. Mr Kirk was discharged, and returned home yesterday afternoon.
"The recent heavy rains are believed to have caused the failure of the traffic lights at the Dublin Road-Xerox junction," a spokeswoman for Louth County Council said yesterday.
