Kilkenny plant to close with 46 job losses

Forty-six jobs are to go at a newspaper printing works which is to close by the end of the year.

Forty-six jobs are to go at a newspaper printing works which is to close by the end of the year.

Workers at Kilkenny People Printing, which prints regional newspaper titles including the Kilkenny People, Clonmel Nationalist and Tipperary Star, were told of the job losses yesterday.

The company, which is owned by British media group Johnston Press, is to move its entire printing operations to plants in Limerick and Northern Ireland.

Union representatives at the Kilkenny plant are in consultation with Johnston Press to iron out redundancy terms for the 42 full-time staff and four part-time staff at the plant.
