Gardaí are searching for armed raiders who stole an undisclosed sum of cash from a Kilkenny bank late yesterday afternoon.

The two raiders, armed with knives, held up the Allied Irish Banks branch on the Dublin Road in Kilkenny city around 4.30pm.

The robbers made away in a Silver Volkswagen Golf, with a 00 Dublin registration, that was driven by a third person.

A garda said: "The raiders were carrying knives. There was nobody hurt but customers were shocked."

Gardaí appealed for anyone with information to contact Kilkenny Garda Station.
