The Kildare county board have approved proposals for a new 23,000 capacity stadium to be constructed on the outskirts of Newbridge.

The development will replace St Conleth's Park in the town with the existing venue, sited in the centre of the town, being sold to finance the move.

A meeting of club delegates last night voted in favour of moving to the 25-acre site outside the town. In addition to the new stadium, the development will include state-of-the-art training centre and extensive parking facilities.
