Kerry County Council paid more than €230,000 an acre and amassed loans of €20 million for a land bank near rural towns and villages for which it now has no use, the annual budget meeting of the council heard yesterday, writes Anne Lucey.
Much of the 89 acres of council-owned land, in various locations from Ballyferriter to Milltown and Cahersiveen, was bought during the boom and none of it is likely to be developed for housing, the meeting heard.
