A search was called off last night at the resort of Ballybunion, Co Kerry, for three people who reportedly had gone out to sea on an inflatable craft and surf board and not returned.

Rescue teams and boats and the Shannon-based marine rescue helicopter searched the coastline for the three, believed to be men, and the coast guard and fire services were also involved.

When there was no sign of the three men, who had not been reported missing to gardaí, the search was abandoned.
