Two Irish sisters in their 20s have died in a road crash in France.
Jenny (29) and Catherine (22) Miller died near the town of Cholet, south-east of Nantes, when their car collided with two trucks in icy conditions.
RTE broadcaster, Mr Pat Kenny
They were the daughters of former RTÉ executive, Mr Liam Miller, who retired last year after 34 years with the State broadcaster. He and his wife Britt had moved to France after his retirement.
Catherine had gone to Paris to meet Jenny and they were driving to meet their parents when tragedy struck.
Speaking before beginning his radio show this morning, broadcaster Pat Kenny paid tribute to the women, who he knew personally.
"I have known the children nearly all of their lives and I have to tell you they were wonderful human beings and it's no exageration no hyperbole to say that I would have been proud to have them as my own daughters," Kenny told listeners.
He said Jenny had a long-term boyfriend who was "about to pop the question this Christmas.
"They were going to set off on a new life in France running a small hotel". Catherine had recently finished studying drama in Trinity College.
RTÉ director of communications, Ms Bride Rosney said: "We are all devastated by the tragedy and our sympathies go out to Liam and his wife Britt. He was due to arrive in France this morning."
