Limerick may have a crematorium established in the de-consecrated church at Mount St Lawrence Cemetery if a submission invited by the Mayor, Alderman Jim Kemmy, is acceptable.

In a statement yesterday, the Mayor said he had been concerned "that for more than two decades this fine cut stone building" had been the object of increased vandalism.

"The slated roof and stained glass windows of the church have been damaged and destroyed and the building has been regularly used for bottle parties and anti social behaviour."
