The Limerick man at the centre of a collapsed murder trial has had a four-month sentence for public order offences extended by a further three months at Limerick District Court today.
Liam Keane (19) of Singland Gardens, Ballysimon, Limerick was jailed earlier this month for his role in a fracas outside the same courthouse at Merchant's Quay on November 26th.
Today gardaí applied for the suspended part of a previous sentence for intoxication in a public place and threatening behaviour to be lifted.
Judge Tom O'Donnell said that Keane was bound to keep the peace when given a suspended sentence in relation to an incident at Parkway shopping centre in October. Gardaí were entitled to seek the lifting of the suspension, he said.
Keane made headlines when a murder trial in which was the defendant collapsed after several prosecution witnesses denied identifying him as the killer of 19-year-old Eric Leamy in Limerick, on August 28th, 2001.
Mr Keane had denied the charges.
