Nealie O’Connor, originally from Tralee and living near Loch Gaineamháin with his partner and two-month old baby, set out on the lake on his kayak at 3am. His partner raised the alarm at 8am when he failed to return.

A search co-ordinated by gardaí and assisted by the Valentia Coast Guard began at once on Friday.

Yesterday, sweeps of the lake were undertaken by the Shannon-based Coast Guard helicopter and inshore search and rescue units, locals and fishermen scoured the lake. Divers from Killarney Water Rescue assisted in the search.
