Irish literary figures gathered in a snow covered churchyard at Inniskeen, Co Monaghan, yesterday for a ceremony to commemorate poet author Patrick Kavanagh, who died in 1967.

The ceremony included a poetry reading and Kavanagh's niece, Ms Mary Harken, placed a wreath on his grave. "Interest in Kavanagh is increasing each year, with more and more visitors coming to the village to see where he lived and what may have inspired him", Kavanagh Society chairman Mr Peter Murphy said.
