Judge Michael Reilly at the beginning of yesterday's sitting of the Limerick City Court paid tribute to Mr Jim Kemmy TD, a former mayor of the city, who died on Thursday night.

"As a politician and historian", he said, "he is a huge loss to the city of Limerick, most particularly to the poor and disadvantaged".

He said the late Mr Kemmy "was always pleased to educate people like myself in the long and interesting history of his native city." He spoke of the value of the Old Limerick Journal which the late deputy revived and edited.
