A man who was released last October from an eight-year sentence for a robbery in which he held a butcher's knife to a woman's throat has been put back into custody.
Stephen Walsh (23), Coultry Grove, Ballymun, was originally jailed on July 15th, 1999, after he pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to unlawful possession of the knife, to robbery and the possession of heroin for sale and supply on dates in 1997 and 1998.
Judge Frank O'Donnell suspended the balance of the sentence on October 23rd last on conditions set down then and on other conditions imposed at a further hearing on December 11th last.
Judge O'Donnell has now remanded Walsh in custody after hearing evidence regarding new alleged offences.
Walsh said the High Court had granted him bail on the new charges to which he said he would be pleading not guilty.
Walsh in evidence told Judge O'Donnell he had abided by conditions imposed including seeking out residential drug treatment and signing on daily at Santry Garda Station and said that returning him to prison would leave him "back at square one".
