The appointment of the first woman to the Special Criminal Court was announced yesterday

The appointment of the first woman to the Special Criminal Court was announced yesterday. Judge Mary O'Halloran a district court judge, will succeed the late Judge Thomas Ballagh in the non-jury court.

Judge O'Halloran became a barrister in 1976 when she was called to the Bar. Four years later she qualified as a solicitor. In 1992 she was appointed a judge of the district court and has been in the west Limerick/north Kerry district since August 1993.
