Golf round-up:Australia's Matt Jones put a double-bogey on the opening hole behind him in fine fashion in San Antonio as he took the early clubhouse lead with a six-under-par 66 in the opening round of the Valero Texas Open.

Jones made a six at the first but got back to level par by the turn with birdies at the sixth and seventh. The 30-year-old from Sydney then blitzed the back nine in 30 shots, with four birdies and an eagle on the par-five 14th.

It gave him an early one-shot lead over American Paul Stankowski, with JB Holmes, Matt Weibring and Steve Flesch a shot further back.

Rebecca Coakley is four shots off the lead after the first round of the Ladies German Open in Munich.

Coakley carded three birdies and two bogeys in a one-under-par 71, one shot better than Irish colleagues Hazel Kavanagh and Alison Walshe. Tara Delaney shot a two-over 74, while Martin Gillen signed for a 76.

Denmark’s Iben Tinning leads the way on five under, one clear of South Africa’a Lee-Anne Pace.

Des Smyth sits in a share of fourth place after the second round at the Handa Senior Masters at Melton Mowbray in England after he carded a five-under 68.

That left the Louth golfer on eight under, five shots behind leader Bill Longmuir of Scotland.
