The Northern Ireland seasonally adjusted jobless figures for January show unemployment rising by 400 over the month to 60,600, or 7.9 per cent of the workforce.

The North's economy minister, Mr Adam Ingram, said the figures did not of themselves indicate an upward trend in unemployment, which had been steadily falling, but pointed to challenges ahead.
