Chick Corea has been charged with inconsistency throughout his three decades-plus career, but his status as one of the leading jazz pianists of his generation has always gainsaid the critics. In the late 1960s, Corea joined Stan Getz as a pianist and composer, shortly after joining Miles Davis for the trumpeter's first real experiments with fusion music. Perhaps best known for his fusion band Return To Forever, Chick (real name Armando) is latterly involved in challenging the visionary extremes of virtuosity. If complex melodic arrangements with a fusion bias is your cup of jazzmine tea, then his gig at Dublin's Olympia theatre next Wednesday is bound to be a treat. If not, there's always Coronation Street.
