In 2003 Northern Ireland parents opted for solid four-letter names for their offspring. The most popular names for boys and girls last year were Jack and Emma.
Emma moved up from joint seventh place in 2002 to be the top girl's name last year, ousting Chloe from the number one position. Jack moved from second to first place, replacing Matthew in the top of the tots boys' slot.
The top 10 girls' names are: Emma, Katie, Caitlin, Chloe, Amy, Ellie, Hannah, Rachel, Sarah and Megan.
The most popular boys' names are: Jack, Matthew, Adam, James, Ryan, Joshua, Conor, Daniel, Ben and Dylan.
Only one of the top 10 boys' names in 1975, James, is on the 2003 list, while not one of the top 10 girls' names in 1975 appears on the current list.
