Ankara - A quasi-military court sentenced one of Turkey's most prominent Islamists to 10 months in jail yesterday for a speech that fell foul of a growing secularist drive against Islamist politicians. The state security court in the city of Diyarbakir convicted the mayor of Istanbul, Mr Recep Tayyip Erdogan, for "inciting hatred" in an address to Islamist supporters in southeast Turkey last year.
