Qatar - The 56-nation summit of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), meeting in Qatar, broke up last night in disarray over the final communique, writes Michael Jansen. While agreement was reached on the OIC's approach to the Palestinian uprising, Kuwait objected to language reflecting a softer approach to Iraq, which invaded and occupied the emirate in 1900.

The gathering called on Iraq to "complete" the implementation of Security Council resolutions linked to sanctions and called for a "comprehensive dialogue" between the council and Iraq. Qatar and the United Arab Emirates have joined Oman and Yemen in the drive to reconcile Iraq and Kuwait.
