A man in his 40s who is reportedly from the west of Ireland was shot dead in Boston early yesterday morning

A man in his 40s who is reportedly from the west of Ireland was shot dead in Boston early yesterday morning. The man, who has yet to be formally identified. was shot in the chest on the street in the Dorchester area of the city at around 1am (6am Irish time).

Local residents said the shooting followed the annual Irish Heritage Festival, which had attracted a large crowd to the area.

According to local media reports the man worked in construction and had been living in the US for more than 10 years. A spokesman for the Boston Police Department confirmed to The Irish Times that an investigation was ongoing but a formal identification was not likely until later today.
