The Department of Foreign Affairs has revised its travel advice for people going to Thailand following the death of a second Irishman in a motorcycle crash there.
The 27-year old man was killed in a motorcycle crash in Patong, on the island of Phuket, on Tuesday night.
The man, originally from Cork city but with family in Douglas, was believed to be working in Thailand and had been travelling abroad for the past year. His death follows a similar incident last week when another young man was killed after crashing a motorbike.
An average of 38 people a day die in motorcycle accidents in Thailand.
The Department of Foreign Affairs is advising tourists to be cautious about hiring motorbikes.
"Riding a motorcycle or scooter in Thailand can be dangerous," the department's website says. "The Thai law that safety helmets must be worn is widely ignored, which is a contributing factor in many tourist deaths each year."
