A planned one-day work stoppage by over 70 Irish Rail engineering staff tomorrow has been called off following talks at the Labour Court.

The engineers, members of Amicus-MSF and the Transport Salaried Staff Association (TSSA), had threatened to take action at what they claimed was the company's failure to introduce recommended pay increases.

Mr Colm Quinlan of Amicus-MSF said this morning that following yesterday's talks, Irish Rail had agreed to pay two recent Labour Court recommended wage awards to the workers.

He said the court recommended that they receive a basic pay increase of 15 per cent, to be paid retrospectively to last March.

However, Irish Rail had failed to fully implement this, he said, with some workers receiving the 15 per cent increase with no back pay, others receiving various pay increases that were less than the agreed 15 per cent and others getting nothing at all.

Irish Rail yesterday denied it had failed to pay the recommended awards.
