Former under-21 Republic of Ireland goalkeeper was charged today with raping a young woman, British police said.

Former under-21 Republic of Ireland goalkeeper was charged today with raping a young woman, British police said.

Mr Graham Stack, 23, who is currently on loan to Second Division team Millwall, was due to appear in court next Tuesday, a spokesman for London's Scotland Yard police added.

"Graham Stack, a professional footballer of Beckenham, Kent, was charged today with the rape of a 21-year-old woman at his address on September 1," the spokesman said.

Also charged in connection with the same alleged incident was operations analyst Mr Allan Smillie, 22, from Feltham, Middlesex, police said.

Britain's Premiership League, watched by millions worldwide, has in recent years been rocked by allegations of bad behaviour by some of its highly paid young players.

Stack made his debut for Arsenal's first team last year and has played for the Republic of Ireland Under-21 team.

Stack and Smillie were due to appear at Bromley Magistrates' Court in southeast London, on November 23.

Arsenal had no immediate comment.
