Irish company wins Web award

NUA, Gerry McGovern's company, has won a major award for its use of the World Wide Web

NUA, Gerry McGovern's company, has won a major award for its use of the World Wide Web. The "best overall business achievement" prize was the top category in the six awards, drawn from 120 finalists from across Europe.

The European WWW Business Award 96 was made in Paris on Friday as part of the fifth International World Wide Web Conference, organised by the French research institute INRIA with the support of the European Commission. The awards aim to raise awareness of and enthusiasm for business opportunities based on the Web.

Nua is an Irish company that offers consultancy on the design, technical and marketing aspects of using the Internet commercially. "Basically, we cover the spectrum of what needs to be done to create an effective website," says Gerry McGovern, who set up the company last August.

He said one factor in winning the award may have been the "strong Irish identity" of Nua's site. "Our overall design blends Irish imagery with state of the art design techniques, giving a feel that embodies both the old and the modern."
