The Department of Foreign Affairs last night confirmed it has been in touch with the British authorities about the apparent illegal deportation from London on Monday of a Romanian woman and her two children, despite the fact they are Irish citizens.

Tania Dura, who is married to an Irishman and has two children with him, was taken with the children from a flat in London on Monday and put on a flight to Bucharest.

Ms Dura showed photocopies of her children's passports to the British authorities but this did not prevent the family's deportation. Because she is married to an Irishman, Ms Dura and her children are legally entitled to live anywhere in the EU.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin said they were aware of the case and trying to establish the full facts.
