A spokesperson for Athletics Association of Ireland (AAI) confirmed this evening that an Irish athlete has failed an 'A' sample drugs test.
At this stage the identity of the athlete in question has not been disclosed while the individual in question is informed of the result.
While the AAI said they regret the news they will adhere to all procedural matters relating to the test as determined by the IAAF, the sports governing body.
