A woman has died following a two-car collision in Co Cork.

The incident took place at Coppeen East, Enniskeane, at about 9.00am.

The woman, who was in her early 40s and was driving one of the cars, was pronouced dead at the scene by emergency services.

The driver of the other car, a man in his late 50s, was taken to Bantry hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

The road has reopened after being closed for a Garda forensic collision examination.

Witnesses are asked to contact Bandon Garda station on 023-8852200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

Meanwhile, an elderly man was seriously injured when his car hit a tree on the Rochestown Road in Cork city at about 6.30pm.

The road was closed to allow a Garda forensic crash investigator carry out an examination of the crash site and diversions have been put in place.
