A woman has died in a house fire in Co Meath on Saturday morning.

Gardaí confirmed the woman (40s) died following the fire, which was at a house on Castlemartin Avenue, Bettystown, at about 9.40am.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her remains have been removed to the mortuary at Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan, where a postmortem will take place.

Gardaí in Laytown are investigating.
