A 27-year-old Wexford man is fighting for his life after being seriously injured in a head-on collision between a car and a lorry in Australia.

Thomas O'Flaherty from Kilmore Quay was alone in his car when it was involved in the crash during a journey from Sydney to Brisbane on Thursday last.

"He was admitted to hospital with serious injuries," said his father James O'Flaherty who has flown to Australia to be at his bedside at the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle, New South Wales.

Thomas has been living in Australia for the past four years, working as a medical engineer in Brisbane.

“He is still in a coma, he hasn’t woken up yet,” said Mr. Flaherty. “Hopefully the outcome will be good.”
