Man died after van hit wall; male passenger’s injuries said not to be serious

A man in his 30s was killed in a single-vehicle crash near Portlaoise last night.

The crash occurred on the Borris Road on the outskirts of the Co Laois town at about 7.30pm last night.

The man died after the van he was driving hit a wall. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second male who was a passenger in the van was brought to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaoise with injuries described as not serious.

The stretch of road was closed to facilitate an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators and local diversions were put in place.
