University of Limerick student collapses and dies in lecture

A young student collapsed and died during a lecture at the University of Limerick yesterday.

The woman named locally as Rachael Hogan (22), Castleville, Golf Links Road, Castletroy, Limerick, was a fourth year business and marketing student.

The student was attending a lunchtime lecture in the Kemmy Business School when she collapsed suddenly at about 12.30pm.

A university doctor arrived on the scene within minutes and an ambulance was called. Efforts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful and she was later pronounced dead at University Hospital Limerick.

A UL spokesperson said counselling will be offered to anyone affected by the tragic incident.

Gardaí are not treating the death as suspicious.
