Two men killed in separate single-vehicle crashes

Gardaí investigate incidents that happened in Kildare and Tipperary on Monday night

Two men have died in separate single-vehicle crashes that took place on Monday evening.

A man, aged in his 70s, was fatally injured in Co Kildare when he crashed while driving his motorcycle.

Another man, in his 40s, was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Co Tipperary.

The Tipperary crash occurred at Mainstown in Carrick-on-Suir. The man’s body was taken to the mortuary at South Tipperary General Hospital for a postmortem examination.

The road from Faugheen towards Carrick-on-Suir is closed as the Garda forensic team examine the scene. Local diversions are in place.

The fatal incident in Co Kildare occurred in the Derrycrib area of Donadea at about 6pm.

The motorcyclist’s body was taken to the mortuary at Naas General Hospital where a postmortem examination will be carried out.

The road – the main route between Donadea and Timahoe – is closed pending a forensic examination by Garda forensic collision investigators. Local diversions were in place early on Tuesday morning.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to both crashes as investigations continue.

Anyone who was travelling between Faugheen and Carrick-on-Suir in Tipperary between 9pm and 9.30pm on Monday, or who may have information in relation to the incident, is asked to contact Clonmel Garda station on 052-617-7640.

Gardaí in Naas are also appealing to witnesses to come forward, with particular interest in hearing from motorists who were travelling in the Derrycrib area between 5.30pm and 6.15pm on Monday. Anyone with information can contact Naas Garda station on 045-884-300.
