Two male bikers killed in crashes in Cork and Wicklow

Garda investigates incidents on Cork to Macroom Road and near Roundwood

Two male motorcyclists were killed in separate road incidents in Cork and Wicklow today.

Gardaí in Ballincollig, Co Cork are investigating after a biker was fatally injured when his bike hit a wall on the Cork to Macroom Road (N22) in an area known as Garryhesta at about 5.15pm. No one else was involved in the incident.

His body remained at the scene after the crash as investigations were carried out.

The road was closed to facilitate a Garda forensic examination.

Gardaí appealed for witnesses to contact Ballincollig Garda station on 021-4214680, or any Garda station.

Earlier this afternoon, a motorcyclist was killed in a multiple-vehicle crash in Co Wicklow.

The 50-year-old was fatally injured when his motorcycle hit a car on the R755 at Ballinastoe near Roundwood, Co Wicklow at about 1.50pm.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to St Columcille’s Hospital for postmortem.

A second motorcyclist and the driver of the car, both male, were also injured in the incident and were taken by Ambulance to St Vincent’s Hospital.

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The road was closed and diversions were in place. Forensic collision investigators were at the scene.
