Two killed in separate crashes in Clare and Westmeath

Gardaí investigate single-vehicle accidents which left both drivers dead

A man has been killed in a single-vehicle crash in Co Clare.

The victim, in his 20s, died after his car hit a wall on the Sixmilebridge Road to Shannon at 4.30am.

His body was removed to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick, where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

Gardaí have closed the road for a technical examination and have appealed for witnesses.

Local diversions are in place between Minister’s Cross and the Railway Bridge outside Sixmilebridge, with motorists diverted to the old road.

Separately, a male motorcyclist was killed last night in a single-vehicle crash in Co Westmeath.

The victim (36) was travelling on the old N6 between Rochfortbridge and Milltownpass when his motorcycle struck a fence and a stone pillar between 7.45pm and 8pm.

His body has been taken to Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore, where a full post-mortem examination will take place.
